This year I’ve switched over to using Google Calendar, as some people had requested to have the ability to subscribe to the calendar.

When you click on an event, you’ll see the name of the event followed by a letter in square brackets – This is for the type of event and there is a legend to let you know the types (ie, [S] = Skiing/snowboarding, [T] = Triathlon, etc).

Also, when you click on an event, you’ll see the city it is in, and usually a URL to the event website.

You can also subscribe to the entire calendar by clicking the ‘+ Google Calendar’ button at the bottom.

Lastly, if there’s an event missing, there is a form underneath the calendar where you can submit new events!

A backcountry skier is in hospital with serious injuries after being dug out from an avalanche outside Kimberley, B.C.

Kimberley RCMP were alerted when an emergency locator beacon was activated just after the slide at about 4:30 p.m. MT Saturday near Hellroaring Creek in the St. Mary’s Lake area.

A skier, 35, from Quick, B.C., had been buried by an avalanche. His skiing companion, a woman, 36, from Cranbrook was able to dig him out and then go for help, Cpl. Chris Newel said.

Search and rescue responders located her, and she assisted them in reaching the man.

“A team of approximately 15 search-and-rescue volunteers worked for several hours to get to the subject, stabilize him and then transport him back down to a waiting ambulance,” Newel said.

“The trailhead was located approximately 45 minutes up a remote snow-covered logging road. From there, the team used two snowmobiles and a snow cat to reach the victim, who was another five kilometres in the bush.”

The man was transported by ambulance to East Kootenay Regional Hospital, where he was originally listed in critical condition.

The man’s condition has since been upgraded to “serious,” said Wendy Hetherington of Kimberley search and rescue.

The search and rescue team was also able to locate a dog that the couple had with them that ran off during the avalanche.

The avalanche occurred one day after another slide killed a man skier on Meadow Mountain, 130 kilometres northeast of Nelson in the province’s West Kootenay region.

At least three people have died in avalanches in B.C. this season.

The BC Lions Football Club announced this evening that receiver Paris Jackson has agreed to a contract an extension with the team.

“Paris has always been a very good receiver and in recent years he has developed into both a leader and mentor for our younger receivers,” said VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono. “He is an important part of our team and this is another offseason win for the club to have him returning.”

“Paris brings a unique blend of skill and leadership to the team,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “His production is not the single factor that determines of his overall value to our offence and very happy to have him back.”  

Seeing duty on offense primarily as a back-up, Jackson recorded seven receptions for 117 yards including a dramatic 51-yard TD strike versus Edmonton in Week 17. He also recorded two catches for 43 yards including a 30-yard strike in the club’s Grey Cup win this past November. 

“I very pleased to sign this extension,” said Jackson. “I believe I can continue to contribute to the team in a variety of roles and this demonstrates that both Wally and Mike feel the same way. I’m ready to do whatever is asked of me to help win another championship.”
