Mar 27, 2010: Victoria: Earth Hour Bicycle Ride at Ship Point Parking Lot (near Harbour Air terminal)

TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS, THEN GO RIDE YOUR BIKE!

Join the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition (GVCC) for a ride during Earth Hour, Saturday March 27 to show your commitment to addressing climate change!

Into its 4th year, Earth Hour is an international movement, where 50 million people in over 70 countries demonstrate their commitment to take action against climate change by turning their lights off for 1 hour on the last Saturday of March.

Once again, a group of GVCC members are choosing to observe Earth Hour by turning off our unnecessary lights at home, then going for an informal bike ride around the Cycling Capital of Canada for the hour, leaving at the Ship Point parking lot when the legislature lights go off and returning there just as they come back on again. We feel that this is an appropriate way to demonstrate our commitment to address climate change, by turning off our lights at home for energy conservation, and riding our bikes as a greener transportation choice. Plus, it would be fun to tour around and see who has, and hasn’t, turned their lights off!

We invite like-minded riders to meet us on Saturday, March 27 at Ship Point (near the Harbour Air terminal) at 8:00 PM. The ride starts at 8:30 PM.

After the ride, riders are welcome to join us at the Canoe Brewpub, 450 Swift Street.

We expect that participants will follow the rules of the road when cycling, and have helmets, lights (these are necessary for safety’s sake) and reflectors available for night riding.
