The Fun Run is the largest timed 5K race in BC and is one of the technology industry's largest fundraising events. All proceeds from the run go towards The Dr. Michael Smith Science Fair Endowment, which assists in the advancement of Science Fair programs throughout BC and the encouragement of youth to actively participate in science and technology. All registered Fun Run participants are eligible for prizes and receive FREE admission to TELUS World of Science on the day of the race. Families can meet student science fair participants, view science fair projects, pick up free giveaways from run sponsors and participate in the day's activities while learning how much fun science is.
Register before the early bird deadline (April 30, 2009) for only $25 (adults 19 and over) and $15 (youth 18 and under). There is also a 1K Mini Fun Run for children with an entry fee of $5. .

The Canadian Association of Journalists' national conference and awards gala is the country's annual must-attend journalism training and networking event. It features riveting speakers, expert panels that address key issues facing journalists and advanced workshops that teach crucial skills in a rapidly evolving news industry.
Speakers include:
- Khaled Abu Toameh, an award-winning, independent Arab Israeli journalist who writes for international news outlets that include the Jerusalem Post and Washington Post, and who advised U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama.
- Therese Bottomly, the five-time Pulitzer Prize winning managing editor of the Portland Oregonian who will explore the perils and promises of online reporting in real time breaking-news situations.
- Arthur Kent, multiple award-winning journalist, author and documentary filmmaker whose 30-year international affairs reporting career spans the globe. He has deep knowledge of Afghanistan and his intrepid reporting during the 1991 Gulf War earned him the nickname "Scud stud."
