Haunted fun at Metropolis

The Metropolis Mystery Manor returns to Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby for 14 days of scary fun from Saturday, Oct. 18 to Oct. 31. Kids are invited to the mall Oct. 25 for fun with the Metrokids Club or for trick-or-treating at 6 p.m. on Halloween Eve. The Metropolis Mystery Manor, a haunted house where kids and grown ups are dared to be scared, is located in the mall’s Grand Court with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the Rotary Club of Burnaby-Deer Lake. This fun fright is recommended for children age seven and up. The Mystery Manor will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.

Halloween howl

Enjoy games, haunted house, candy and door prizes during the Halloween Howl at the C.G. Brown Pool, 3702 Kensington Ave., in Burnaby, on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $2.60 per person. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.

Take a ride on the Bear Creek Park Train through the Friendly Spook Alley daily from Oct. 11 to 31. Children’s fare includes a Halloween craft, game, treat and a real pumpkin to take home. Bear Creek Park Train is located at 13750 88th Ave., Surrey. For those looking for a real scare, there’s the Haunted Forest Scream Train, Oct. 17 to 31, 6:30 to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 31, it’s Halloween family fun night in Langley. Enjoy a Halloween costume dance, apple bobbing, ring the pumpkin, crafts, and much more. Check out one of the Fraser Valley’s best haunted houses at the Ghost Ridge Haunted House at the fairgrounds on 105 Avenue off the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Haunted house runs from Oct. 26 to 30.

Laity Pumpkin Patch

Have lots of fun for the whole family at the Laity Pumpkin Patch, 21145 128th in Pitt Meadows. Patch features interactive displays, small tractor ride, animal farm, corn maze, and a huge pumpkin patch. Admission is $2 (children under 12 months are free) and pumpkin prices range from $2 and up. Willowview Farms

Head out to the country to the Willowview Farms, 288 McCallum Rd., in Abbotsford, to pick out the perfect pumpkin. Saturdays in October are Pumpkin Daze, featuring a hay maze, petting zoo, and a hayride to the pumpkin patch. In October, the farm is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. FYI: they also sell a tasty apple cider.

Apple Barn

Apple Barn, 333 Gladwin Rd. in Abbotsford is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Apple Barn has a play pass for kids for $6.50, which includes hayrides, hay maze, bin maze, slides and petting zoo. Adults are $3, which can be refunded for $3 worth of apples. Pony rides are available on weekends for $4.50, and hayrides are available sometimes on weekdays.

Aldor Acres

Venture out to Langley to check out Aldor Acres, 24990 84th Ave., Langley. Cost is $6 per person or $27 per family, includes hayride, petting farm with many baby animals including a baby horse, a colt named Blaze, and Lavender, the pig, had babies on Oct. 1. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, until Oct. 31.

Country Farms

Richmond is home to a great pumpkin patch at Country Farms, 12900 Steveston Hwy. Sing along hayrides, petting zoo, live entertainment, corn maze and much more. Hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday (and holidays) 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free admission for children under two. Weekday admission is $7 and on weekends admission is $10, which includes a kid-size pumpkin.

Peteys Pumpkin Patch

In Chilliwack, check out Peteys Pumpkin Patch and the Kids Zone. Take a train out to the pumpkin patch, little goblins can play in a Dora pirate ship, and much more. For a scarier trek, check out Reapers and the Dark Maze.

The Dunbar Haunted House – 6478 Dunbar – Hundreds, even thousands of local homeowners will go to town on their Halloween display this year. But the Leith/Flitt house at 50th and Dunbar is one of the wildest, most over-the-top haunted houses you will ever see in your life. They are collecting donations for BC Professional Fire Firefighters’ Burn Fund, Vancouver Police Union Charitable Foundation and BC Childhood Cancer Parents’ Association. The haunted house raised over $19,000 for charities last year.

Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tours – The tour begins in the Vancouver Museum’s eerie gallery where Stanley Park’s dark secrets are revealed. Later, as the trolley manoeuvres its way through the streets, Vancouver’s ghost sightings and murder mysteries will scare and entertain you. Main Stops: Mountain View Cemetery, home to over 145,000 interred remains, and the Old City Morgue, to learn how autopsies are performed. Tours depart between 6:00pm – 9:40pm, from the Vancouver Museum. There is a 7pm and 9pm tour nightly.

World of the Weird at the Vancouver Aquarium – Dare to explore the famous Haunted Hallway, where you’ll come face to face with nature’s nightmares, spook-tacular sights, and our own mad marine scientist! Check out the frightfully fascinating Bat Exhibit, and then embark on our Howl-o-ween

Wicked scoundrels will return from the dead to plunder Stanley Park in search of treasure October 10 to November 1, 2008 as Mortal Coil Performance Society creates a voyage of adventure through the dark woods to discover ghostly galleon shipwrecks, devilish dead pirates, skeletons hanging from gallows, hidden maps, sword fights, pirate pumpkins, mermaid ghosts and secret treasures. Enter at your peril… bloodthirsty villains may strike at any moment!

Since 1999, the Stanley Park Hallowe’en Ghost Train has spooked thousands of families who dared to climb aboard. Each year, the Ghost Train reinvents itself with a new theme, a new set, new costumes, and many more surprises dreamed up by the creative and imaginative team at Mortal Coil Performance Society.

Family adventures at this year’s Ghost Train, in addition to the train ride, will include pirate hat making, face painting, the always-popular Haunted Children’s Farmyard and its spooky animals, along with other activities. On Thursday through Saturday nights, you can take part in the Creatures of the Night Walks hosted by the Stanley Park Ecological Society. And on Thursday through Sunday nights, visit the Storytelling Tent, brought to you by Once Upon a Huckleberry Bush.
