viff, bcThe Vancouver International Film Festival – undoubtedly one of the best fests in the world – kicks off this month, beginning with the Film & Television Forum from September 24 to 26, 2008, then its offshoot for emerging writers, directors, and producers, New Filmmakers’ Day (NFD) on September 27. The festival proper, featuring an incredible lineup of films from around the world, runs from September 25 to October 10.

Critically acclaimed as “an unspoiled celebration of world cinema,” the 27th VIFF brings you films from 60 countries. And many of them may not come this way again.

Founded in 1982, the festival’s mandate is to encourage the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia and Canada.

Films are screened on the following 10 screens:

  • Empire Granville 7 Cinemas (7 screens) including:
  • The Visa Screening Room at the Empire Granville 7 Cinemas, Screen 7
  • Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre
  • Pacific Cinémathèque
  • Ridge Theatre
